Introduction to the Bloodhound Breed
Bloodhound (detailed introduction)
The Bloodhound originated in the 8th century and belongs to the ancient Ardennes mountain Bracke hound breed. There is almost no concrete evidence to indicate exactly how long ago the Bloodhound originated, but many authorities believe that the Bloodhound was already famous in Mediterranean countries long before the Christian era.
It is considered the modern representative of the oldest breed of scent hounds and pointing dogs. Of course, centuries of selective breeding have altered its appearance compared to the breed praised by ancient people. However, its characteristics are so distinctive that cynologists have explored it throughout the history of dog breeds.
The Bloodhound appeared early in Europe in two varieties: black and white. These two varieties played an important role in the development of other hounds and hunting dog breeds.
