How to Train Dogs to Buy Things
We often hope dogs can do some tasks for us, such as helping us buy things. To train dogs to help us buy things, we must first train them to complete some relatively simple actions.
1. Train the dog to carry a bag with a certain weight.
The first step is to train them to "sit down." This action is very simple, so we won't explain it in detail here. Next, I will carefully introduce the "carry something" action.
First, we need to get the dog used to having something in its mouth. Besides adapting to the size of the object, it also needs to get used to the weight. Of course, this weight must be within the range that the dog's mouth can bear. Owners can take a plastic bag filled with a certain weight of items and let the dog gradually get used to this weight. During this process, it is necessary to ensure that the bag held by the dog does not fall.
2. Let the dog distinguish some simple items.
After the dog gradually gets used to carrying the bag, we can try to let the dog distinguish items. Let the dog slowly recognize some basic things that need to be bought frequently. Of course, recognizing the stores and routes where to purchase is necessary and also the most important point.
3. Let the dog become familiar with shops that are farther from home.
We can choose some shops near home, with acquaintances or frequently visited stores. These shops will ensure we do not buy the wrong products and will not deceive us or harm the dog. Because we often take the dog to these shops to buy things, the shop owners will become familiar with our dog. In training, we should also regularly bring our dog to get familiar with these shops. Ideally, the shop owners and dogs should have good contact and acquaintance. The benefit of this is to help the dog successfully buy items.
4. Let the dog recognize multiple routes from the shops to home.
This is the most important point. Important things said three times. Because we need to ensure that after buying things, the dog can smoothly return home. We want the dog to be as familiar as possible with the surrounding environment. Ensure the dog will not get lost or stray in this area. This does not require special efforts; when walking the dog, you can choose different routes. By the end of training, the dog will roughly be familiar with the area.
