How to Train and Raise a Border Collie?
Border Collies are super smart dogs with beautiful patterns, and their trainability is especially strong. They can quickly understand the meaning of what the owner says, so many Border Collies at home are very obedient. They can even accept some more complex tasks or commands. But many beginners may not know how to raise and train dogs, so today I will teach you how to train a well-behaved and obedient Border Collie.
Actually, when we first start raising a Border Collie, we cannot immediately begin training it, because people usually choose to raise a puppy. Puppies are actually the best time to train dogs, but if the dog is too young, it can still have emotional fluctuations. Therefore, we should first let them get familiar with the environment where they will live in the future, allowing them to relax a bit before starting with the basics. Gradually, step by step, train them. Around three months old is especially good for training the dog. We can first try simple training to improve the Border Collie’s comprehension ability, which will help it better understand commands during future training.
Generally, before three months, the dog goes out less because it is still weak at that age. Once it grows bigger, you should take it out more often, such as for walks outside. This is also a form of training: training the Border Collie to fetch things for you or to help you carry items, and teaching it good habits, such as not barking wildly at strangers and not being aggressive in public. Also, train it not to run around freely; when you call its name, it should respond and run over to you. At home, train the dog to eat at fixed times and places and to use a designated spot for toileting. When guests visit, allow the dog to have appropriate contact with strangers, then train other habits.
Also remember, although training should be somewhat strict, when the dog behaves well and listens, give it some rewards to motivate it to be more obedient. This will make training more efficient. When mistakes are made, promptly teach it to correct them. Actually, not only can spending time together enhance the relationship between you and the Border Collie, but training also rapidly deepens your bond. The better your relationship with your dog, the more loyal it will be to you.
