How to Train a Border Collie? Six Aspects Quick Mastery
Border Collies can be said to be the smartest dogs. Many people like to buy them because of this characteristic. However, the process of raising a Border Collie is not as simple as everyone imagines. You cannot think it's easy to raise just because of its high intelligence. On the contrary, it is even harder to train and more troublesome. Training must have methods and skills to achieve the best results. Next, we will introduce the issue of training with frisbees. It is important to note that the training time should not be too long. When starting training, limit the time to within 15~20 minutes.
⒈ Cultivating the dog's interest in frisbees
Method 1: Use the frisbee as the dog's food dish, placing food and water in it. The dog will like it very much.
Method 2: The owner performs frisbee play, and the dog watches on the side. If it is interested, it will actively ask to participate in the game.
⒉ If the dog shows interest in the frisbee, train the dog's excitement control.
Method 1: Play with the frisbee next to the dog, always giving it the feeling of wanting but not getting it. When it gets more and more anxious and excited, at a suitable point, throw the frisbee to the dog. This will instantly calm it down and make it extremely happy. Then you take the frisbee back and repeat this operation.
Method 2: The owner finds a partner to throw the frisbee to each other, making the dog run back and forth between two points, hitting its excitement point. When it is very excited, occasionally throw the frisbee to it a few times.
⒊ Bite frisbee training and command obedience.
When the trained dog shows excitement just by seeing the frisbee, you can start training its biting and obedience commands. This means gradually increasing the dog's frisbee biting times, which facilitates the next command training. At this time, the commands “bite” and “release” can be used together. After these two commands are familiarized, you can start issuing the “sit” command, combined with the “bite” command. After the “sit” command action is completed, you can continue with obedience commands like “lie down” and “stay.”
⒋ Catching the rolling frisbee
The circulation movement training can use the method of rolling the frisbee on the spot, which can train the dog's ability to bite moving objects. Because with general flat throws, the dog may cheat by picking up the frisbee already on the ground. If necessary, you can add a control rope (a properly lengthed leash) to assist.
⒌ Leverage training
This training can start after the dog is familiar with the “bite” command. It requires the dog, frisbee, and a certain part of the owner's body, usually starting from the legs, then training the upper back movements.
⒍ Aerial frisbee catch
As long as the previous movements are well trained, this is not too laborious. Just pay attention that the training difficulty gradually increases, that is, the distance from near to far and speed from slow to fast.
