How to Provide Emergency Treatment for Dog Snake Venom
Newfoundland Dog (Detailed Introduction)

Some owners often take their dogs out to play together, and the places for play often include scenic mountain villages. Snakes usually appear in the mountains, and dogs are quite curious, so they are very likely to be bitten by snakes. If it's an ordinary snake, it’s okay, but if it’s a venomous snake, corresponding measures must be taken. So how to provide emergency treatment for dog snake venom?

       1. Prevent the spread of venom. Use a cloth band or rope to tightly bind above the wound. Make sure the tourniquet is not loose, but it can only be applied for 2 hours, or else the area beyond the binding may suffer ischemic necrosis. You can loosen it for 1–2 minutes every 15–20 minutes.

       2. Remove the venom. Thoroughly rinse with clean water or ammonia water, or flush with a 1:5000 potassium permanganate solution. Then use a triangular needle to prick the wound and the surrounding swollen area randomly, or make a linear incision along the snake tooth marks to drain the venom. Immediately remove any snake teeth if present.

       3. Neutralize the venom. Inject monovalent or polyvalent anti-snake venom serum intravenously. To prevent allergic reactions, 0.01% adrenaline may be used.

       4. Local symptomatic treatment. Cold compresses and topical analgesics can be applied; corticosteroids and blood volume expanders can be given to treat toxic shock. Use antibiotics to prevent infection; inject tetanus antitoxin to prevent tetanus.

Although this situation generally does not occur often, we should still master emergency treatment for it. If it really happens, we can take the appropriate measures to save our dog's life.
