Most dog owners have the habit of walking their dogs, which is very beneficial to the dog's health. However, many owners arrange walks at fixed times, causing dogs to develop a habit of wanting to go outside at that specific time every day. Even if it rains, they may demand to go out and bark loudly if refused, becoming stubborn and difficult. Therefore, we need to know how to properly walk a dog to avoid this kind of habit.

       Many owners view walking and bathroom habits as “paired tasks.” Once this becomes a habit, dogs can only relieve themselves when taken for a walk, leading to health concerns if not done regularly. As a result, for 365 days a year, regardless of wind or rain, owners always carry newspapers or plastic bags and are led by their dogs. However, the habit of only going to the bathroom outdoors is not natural to dogs but is a result of owner “training,” which causes dogs to urinate everywhere outdoors. Therefore, walking and bathroom needs must be separated from an early age. A designated area such as a yard or fixed spot should be set up at home as the dog’s toilet, teaching the dog to relieve itself there. This way, regardless of weather or storms, owners won’t have to worry about their dog's physiological needs outdoors.

       Walking dogs does not need to be done every day; it can be every other day. The time can also be slightly changed. If you find your dog is getting used to a routine, change the interval again, so the dog won’t demand to go out at a fixed time.
