How to Let Dogs Adapt to a New Environment?

After a puppy comes to a new environment, it often becomes highly nervous due to fear; any loud noises or sudden movements may scare it. Therefore, loud noise should be avoided and curiosity-driven crowding or teasing is a must to avoid. It is best to directly place it into the kennel or arrange a resting place indoors, and only approach it after some time of adaptation. The best time to approach the dog is during feeding; at this time, you can gently push the food in front of the puppy while speaking softly, and also gently stroke its back fur. The food should be something the dog particularly likes, such as meat and bones. At the beginning, it may not eat, but there is no need to force it; once adapted, it will eat automatically. If it walks out of the kennel or freely moves indoors, it means it has initially adapted to the new environment.

In addition, when raising a puppy, it must be trained to relieve itself at a fixed place. Dogs have a habit that the first place they sleep in a new environment is considered the safest; afterwards, they will go to this place every night to sleep and will not cross that boundary. Therefore, on the first night, it must be kept in the kennel or the designated sleeping area indoors, even for adult dogs. After a few days, this will become fixed. If occasionally found sleeping somewhere else, pick it up and put it back to the original place with the command "Here."

Generally, puppies can fully adapt to a new environment within 3 to 5 days. During this period, the owner must treat them kindly and avoid losing temper or scolding. If the puppy does something according to the owner’s request, timely rewards should be given so the puppy knows it is a favorite action. If it makes a mistake, simply say "No" sternly so it understands it is not allowed.

During the puppy's adaptation phase, escape attempts must be prevented. Once the puppy is found sneaky, dodging, ignoring calls or trying to run away, it must be stopped immediately and scolded to prevent further escape attempts. (Source: PetsZone)
