How to Correct Huskies' Food Guarding
Husky
First, training should start when the Husky is young to prevent it from developing food guarding habits later. In daily life, owners can try placing food on their palms, then open their hand to let the dog come and eat on its own. Note that this feeding method has proven very safe; as long as your palm is open and you don’t tense or suddenly move your hand, the dog will only lick the food and not bite your hand. After a period of training, when the dog is used to eating from your hand, you can try putting food in a bowl, then hold the bowl in your hand and let the pet eat from it.
Secondly, gradually try to get the Husky accustomed to having someone nearby while eating. Before the dog starts eating, you can try placing your hand on its body. If the dog doesn’t resist, you can gently pet it while pouring food into its bowl. Also, do not stop petting during the meal; however, the petting should be gentle and slow, allowing the dog to slowly adapt to this eating pattern and gradually change its food guarding habit.
After achieving the above training, try to take the food bowl away during the Husky’s meal. Note, throughout the meal, if you notice any threatening signs such as wrinkling its nose, growling, or glaring at you sideways, loudly scold it and take away the food. When it calms down, praise it and pet it saying, "Good." Then give the bowl back. Repeat this until it no longer resists.
The key to educating a Husky not to guard food is that you must become its master, making the Husky respect you. Make the dog understand that only you control its feeding rights; only then will the Husky not guard food in front of you.(Source: PetsZone)
