Origin and history:
The Dalmatian dog originates from Dalmatia in western Yugoslavia. It is a very ancient breed that was once used for hunting. In the 19th century, it spread to the UK and gradually lost its hunting skills to become a companion dog. To suit the trend at the time, it was also often used as a top-class carriage dog.
After World War II, it became widely popular in other European countries.
Characteristics: The head is quite long, the skull flat with a shallow vertical groove, a distinct forehead section, the muzzle top flat, long and strong muzzle.
Eyes are medium-sized, slightly round, eye color can be brown, blue, or any mix derived from these, the darker the better. Ears are set high, medium-sized, ear tips rounded, skin texture fine and thin, close to the head. Nose pigmentation is complete: black-nosed dogs have black noses, brown-nosed dogs have brown noses. Lips are clean and tight, teeth have a scissor bite. Neck is quite long, without loose or sagging skin, backline smooth.
Chest deep, ribs expanded, short waist, muscles developed and slightly arched, abdomen slightly tucked up, tail root strong and gradually thinning to the tail tip, slightly curved. Limbs strong and powerful, toes cat-like. Coat short, dense, and close-fitting, hard and smooth.
Coat color is white base with black or brown spots, spots are clearly outlined, mostly round, about 1~2cm in diameter. Ideal shoulder height is 48~58cm.
Temperament: agile, gentle temperament, easily trained, intelligent expression and loyal to the master. Uses: can serve as companion dog, guard dog, and hunting dog.
