Do Not Share Dragon Boat Festival Rice Dumplings with Dogs
Chihuahua
The Dragon Boat Festival is about to arrive, and many owners casually share rice dumplings with their dogs while eating, thinking that a little bit won’t cause any problems. However, cases where dogs refuse to eat, have diarrhea, and other symptoms due to eating rice dumplings often occur during the Dragon Boat Festival. So, can dogs actually eat rice dumplings?
The main ingredient of rice dumplings is glutinous rice, which is oily and sticky. Excessive consumption can easily cause digestive problems in dogs, leading to increased gastric acid secretion, decreased appetite, bloating, diarrhea, and other symptoms. Therefore, dogs should not be fed too many rice dumplings. So how can dogs taste the deliciousness of rice dumplings without causing indigestion?
1. Store-bought meat rice dumplings or those with fillings usually contain seasonings (white wine, soy sauce, various spices) or excessive sodium intake which are harmful to dogs and can cause severe diarrhea, vomiting, anemia, poisoning, and other symptoms. If you want your dog to enjoy, it’s best not to buy store-bought rice dumplings. Instead, you can make your own by mixing glutinous rice and regular rice with lean beef, chicken, lamb, or other fillings for your dog to try in small amounts, and feed them moderately.
2. Before feeding, divide the rice dumplings into small portions, and mechanically chop the food to help the dog digest.
3. For dogs who usually eat greedily and swallow food quickly, it is best not to feed them rice dumplings. Chewing less increases the burden on the stomach and greatly raises the likelihood of indigestion.
Actually, scientific feeding always advocates not feeding dogs human food. Owners who cook at home can tailor nutritious meals according to their dog's nutritional needs. However, blindly feeding human food in excess will always cause a physical burden on dogs and lead to discomfort.
