1. Neck Circumference
Neck circumference refers to the girth of your pet’s neck, in other words, the circumference where you normally put their collar. This spot is where the collar of a garment sits. The collar should not be too loose or too tight; usually allow about one centimeter for ease.
2. Chest Circumference
Where exactly is the chest circumference for pets? It specifically means the circumference around the widest part at the base of their front legs. Usually, this is the fattest part of the pet’s body. Because this area has thick fur and flesh, accurate measurement is difficult; generally, you should allow an extra 2 to 3 centimeters.
3. Body Length
Body length here does not refer to the entire body length, but the length from the back of the neck to the base of the tail. When measuring body length, be sure to have your pet stand straight with their body fully stretched out; do not have them lie down or crouch, as that will greatly reduce measurement accuracy.
4. Special Reminder: Notes for Making Exquisite Clothes for Dogs
The above three parts are the basic measuring areas for making pet clothing. If you need to make more exquisite pet clothes, it’s best to also measure their leg length, the distance between the two front legs, and the lower body length (male dogs can be slightly shorter, female dogs slightly longer), etc.
Certain special dogs require specific measurements for particular body areas. For example: some dogs develop a beer belly due to excessive nutrition, so when making their clothes, the abdomen circumference should be allowed extra room. This can greatly improve the accuracy of the measurements.
