Correcting Dogs' Pica
For dogs with pica, the following methods should be used for adjustment and treatment:
(1) Provide a reasonable diet for the dog to ensure nutritional needs, including minerals, vitamins, trace elements, etc.
(2) Carefully observe which non-food items the dog is interested in and swallows, i.e., pica items; then apply irritating substances, such as pepper powder, chili powder, onto these pica items. Place these treated items where the dog can easily find them. Once the dog ingests these items, it will feel spicy discomfort. After several repetitions, the dog's pica can be terminated.
(3) Mousetrap correction method: invert the mousetrap and place it near the pica items. When the dog approaches and tries to take the item, it will touch the mousetrap, which will spring up with a snap sound, startling the dog away. After repeated occurrences, the dog's pica can be stopped. To enhance the effect, place several mousetraps simultaneously.
(4) Water spray punishment method: when the dog ingests pica items, use a water spray to spray it sharply. After several repetitions, this can also achieve correction. If you have better methods, don’t forget to let me know. (Source: PetsZone)
