Border Collie Training Methods and Commands, Grab a Pen to Take Notes
When choosing a pet dog, we may come across many breeds that can be overwhelming. Among pet dogs, the Border Collie stands out with its coat composed of black and white, unlike the black, gray, and white of a Husky, making it more unique. So are there any special tips for training Border Collies? Many dog training methods differ because some dogs are smarter and learn faster. Today, let's learn about the training methods and commands for Border Collies.
Training pet dogs generally begins when they are puppies, developing good habits early so they grow more obedient. Training should start before the Border Collie is three months old. When calling the dog, we can use the command “come” to summon it, commanding the Border Collie to quickly come and sit beside the owner. During training, a toy the dog likes can be used as a lure. If the Border Collie responds quickly and correctly to the command, the owner can reward the dog with the toy, helping it become very familiar with the command.
The same method is used to train the dog to sit, with the command “sit,” making the dog's whole body form an L shape. If the dog cannot do it at first, the owner can demonstrate for the dog. After completion, a reward should be given to help the dog better memorize the command. Use the command “stand” to order the Border Collie to stand up. The owner first adjusts the dog's posture according to their standard, repeats this a few times, then requires the dog to complete it by itself. Upon completion, an immediate reward is given, and the command is repeated several times to help the dog smoothly perform the commanded posture.
When feeding, the owner can use “eat” to call the Border Collie. Since dogs are eager to eat, after several repetitions, the Border Collie will learn this command. During training, the dog will inevitably make mistakes, so the owner should be tolerant when training the Border Collie rather than punishing it for not completing an action. Punishment will make the dog dislike training and have the opposite effect.
