Anna Shepherd Dog Care Knowledge

The barking level of the Anna Shepherd Dog is acceptable because barking is a natural instinct for dogs. However, if you feel that its barking affects neighbors or your normal rest, you might want to try the following methods.
  1. More Exercise: Sufficient exercise can consume the dog's energy. After playing or running all day, the dog prefers to have a good sleep rather than waste energy barking.
  2. Chewing Bones: If there is something to occupy the dog's mouth, they won't have time to bark randomly. The harder to chew items are more challenging, so next time before you go out, throw their favorite chew toy to help them kill boredom.
  3. Mental Stimulation: If the dog has something to do, it won't have time to bark. Before going out, rub their favorite toy with your hands to leave your scent. When the owner is out of sight, the lonely dog will spend more time searching for the owner's scent on the toy and forget about barking.
  4. Make Some Noise: For more nervous dogs that bark constantly at every little sound, if you can't completely eliminate environmental noise, try creating sounds as a distraction. For example, turn on a noisy vacuum cleaner when the mailman passes by to confuse the dog’s hearing.
  5. Respond to It: Sometimes dogs bark incessantly just to convey some message to the owner. If the owner responds appropriately and shows appreciation, the dog will naturally stop barking once the task is understood.
  6. Reward It: If the dog refuses to quiet down, the owner should immediately scold firmly: "Quiet!" When the dog stops barking, the owner may give some treats or praise as encouragement. This aims to let the dog know that obeying and being quiet will gain the owner’s favor and rewards.
  7. Ignore It: Some dogs, like humans, lose interest in making long speeches when they have no audience. If they keep babbling, the owner can turn and leave; most dogs will wisely shut up. To enhance this learning effect, trainers suggest owners carry a small bell. When the dog barks endlessly, ring the bell first, and after confirming the dog hears it, leave the room. After several lessons, the dog will know to stop barking as soon as it hears the bell. Similarly, when they stop barking, the owner can give praise or reward.
  8. Dampen Their Enthusiasm: Using a water spray can also stop dogs from barking. When they bark nonstop, the owner should first issue verbal warnings. If they still ignore warnings, spray them with water.
  Anna Shepherd Dog Puppy Care
  1. Achieve "Two Maintenances, Three Transitions"
"Two Maintenances" refers to maintaining the original pen and barn feeding and maintaining the original feed; "Three Transitions" refers to feed, feeding system, and environment transition.
Feeding System Transition: A stable living routine promotes puppy growth and reduces diseases. Puppy feed should be fine, fed on a fixed schedule and amount, in small frequent meals, with each meal feeding 70% full to maintain the puppy’s appetite and digestive ability.
Environment Transition: After weaning, puppies should still be raised in the original pen, not transferred elsewhere, nor mixed in groups or litters; only the mother dog is taken out. After a few days, puppies can adapt. Then, they can be grouped by size, strength, breed purpose (working, meat, etc.). Puppies can adapt to new environments within 3-5 days.
  2. Train "Three Point Positioning"
The three-point positioning means fixing the locations for eating, drinking, sleeping, and defecating/urinating.
Caregivers should place food and water utensils in fixed locations and avoid frequent position changes. The first sleeping spot after entering a new pen is very important because the puppy feels safest there and will continue to sleep there. Therefore, on the first night in a new pen, lock or tie the puppy at the designated sleeping spot. Generally, after 3-5 days, the sleeping place will be fixed. If puppies defecate randomly, managers can collect feces and pile them in a designated spot. After 3-5 days, puppies will usually defecate in that fixed spot.
You can also buy pet toilet attractants in pet stores or online. Spray where you want the dog to eliminate consistently without changing locations too often. Eventually, the dog will get used to going there naturally.
