Ghost Mastiff

       In many people's impression, the fiercest dog in China is none other than the Tibetan Mastiff. Indeed, the Tibetan Mastiff is famously fierce, but there is a type of dog that has been overlooked, which is the oddity among mastiffs — the Ghost Mastiff. Many people might be unfamiliar with the Ghost Mastiff because this breed has become extremely rare and is almost forgotten.

       Many people draw the conclusion from relevant materials that the fiercest is the Tibetan Mastiff, but in fact, there is an even more bizarre type of mastiff—the Ghost Mastiff. It carries most of the Tibetan Mastiff’s bloodline, so it is extremely fierce, and naturally, it has a very ferocious nature. Moreover, according to related information, the Ghost Mastiff only recognizes one owner throughout its life, which makes it even more remarkable.

       The Ghost Mastiff has sharp teeth like a vicious wolf and eerie, strange pupils; those who have seen it dare not look directly at its ferocious face. The Ghost Mastiff is a subspecies of the Tibetan Mastiff or a product of genetic mutation. Its coat color differs from other Tibetan Mastiffs and is not like an albino Tibetan Mastiff. Through crossbreeding with other large dogs, it retains some physical traits of the father or mother, while the coat color is mixed white or white and bluish-grey, thus called the Ghost Mastiff.

       Talking about the Ghost Mastiff’s oddity and terror is indeed frightening, but its inner nature is extraordinarily loyal. It recognizes only one owner throughout its life. In its consciousness, other people are on the same level except for the owner. Therefore, its body language shows submission and closeness to the owner, while it always ignores others, even those who live with the owner every day. Its eyes reveal hostility or disdain, causing fear and chills in ordinary people. If the owner meets misfortune and the mastiff dies first, this stubborn mastiff will never find another owner, even if it starves or freezes to death. So, behind every fierce and wild exterior, there is tenderness.

       The Ghost Mastiff is only suitable for survival above 2500 meters on the plateau. Due to its eerie appearance, if herders find pups resembling the "Ghost Mastiff" in their mastiffs’ litters, to seek good luck and avoid troubles with neighbors, they mostly abandon these pups to fend for themselves. As a result, they are extremely rare today.
