Will Cats Say Goodbye to Their Owners Before They Die? Only Know the Beginning, Not the End
Every pet owner fears one piece of news: that their pet is about to pass away. After all, pets that have been raised for a long time develop deep emotions. So when a cat is dying, will it say goodbye to its owner? Many people believe that their cats will say goodbye before they die, but the answer is no.
When a cat feels that it is going to die, it prefers a quiet environment where it won’t be disturbed. The cat will find a place it considers very safe and quietly stay there. This is actually a natural instinct of cats. It’s what we call the cat being afraid of making its owner sad and therefore going away. Usually, before dying, a cat will come back to see its owner once, then quietly leave and find a hidden and quiet place to stay. However, if after resting for a few days, the cat’s body recovers, it will return to its owner's side. If it feels it cannot recover, it will stay there until it dies, and you may not be able to find it. There are exceptions; some cats that have been well trained and have a deep bond with their owners will rely on their owners when they are ill and stay beside them until death.
So how do we know if our cat is going to pass away? If a cat has not eaten for three days and only drinks a little water, and its body is very thin, you need to be alert—your cat is very likely close to death. Also, your pet cat may often appear listless, sleep frequently, keep its eyes partially or fully closed, move sluggishly, and act slowly. You can also check your cat's temperature using a thermometer. A rising temperature typically accompanies thirst, frequent sleeping, slow movement, and loss of appetite.
If we find out beforehand that our cat is dying, we should accompany it well. Because you never know when your cat will leave you, it often finds a quiet place to wait for death. Generally, cats do not say goodbye to their owners before they die. We must observe our cats ourselves and not let them go alone!
