Why Can't Cats Be Given Away Casually? Although Not Clingy, They Are Very Dependent
Many people say cats should not be given away casually because it would be bad, but why can’t adorable cats be given to others? Cats are naturally somewhat cold in temperament. Many friends who have raised cats should understand and feel that cats generally don’t stick to you like dogs do. Therefore, cats do not adapt well to new environments. Once you give it away, when it arrives at a completely new place, it requires a long time to adapt. Some even cannot accept it and die before adapting. So if you give it away, it’s equivalent to abandoning it and giving up on it.

Moreover, in rural areas, people believe cats can bring them wealth. Giving a cat away is like sending away your own luck. You might have heard of the "fortune cat". Usually, such lucky cats are only given as toys when a friend’s new store opens or a relative’s company is established, but those are just dolls, not real cats. This is why there is the saying that cats should not be given away.
Also, most cats are raised by their owners from a young age, forming a deep bond. If you give the cat to someone else, it will be very slow to build affection with the new person. Cats, being cold-blooded to begin with, will make both sides uncomfortable if they have no feelings for the new owner. This can also cause trouble for others. However, very few people give cats away unless the neighbor’s cat has had a large litter, in which case they might give the kittens to relatives or friends. Those given away are kittens, same as buying young cats in pet stores.
Another situation is when there is a pregnant woman at home. In this case, people tend to think about giving the pet away, fearing that having a pet at home might be bad for the pregnancy. But today, after raising a cat for several years, who would still want to give it away? It’s like their own child. Usually, people choose to temporarily place the cat at the home of friends they often visit and who are familiar to the cat, or at their parents’ home, or a pet store. This avoids situations where strangers would be unkind to the cat and also makes it easier to bring the cat back after the baby is born to continue caring for it. So all in all, once you choose to raise a cat, you must see it through and not give up on it easily, even if it is weak, because it is a life and deserves to be treated well.
