　　Kittens need to be stimulated to defecate. Most of the time, kittens urinate first; defecation may not occur every time, but if it does, record the amount and texture each time (normal stool should be toothpaste-like, mustard-colored yellow-green). It is essential to stimulate kittens to defecate to avoid constipation.

　　Keep stimulating defecation until the kitten is 3 to 4 weeks old, and then you can let them learn to use the litter box. At first, they will not know the purpose of the litter box. You can stimulate them to defecate above the box, and once they begin, place them in the box so that the feces go into the litter. Most of the time, kittens naturally understand and learn to use the litter. Fifteen minutes after each feeding, place the kitten in the litter box to remind them to go to the bathroom. At the start, the litter box should not be higher than one inch (2.5CM) to allow easy access for the kitten. Do not use clumping litter, because kittens may eat random things, and clumping litter contains cement-like ingredients which, if ingested, can block their intestines causing serious problems.

　　Before kittens learn to use the litter box, it is best to raise them on easily cleanable floors. If you find the kitten consistently uses a particular spot as a toilet, clean and deodorize that spot well, then place a small litter box there. This may speed up training because they are accustomed to using that spot, and the litter box will trigger their instincts. Once they are used to that small litter box, you can gradually move it to the larger litter box location you prefer.

　　If the kitten makes a mistake and toilets outside the litter box, place their feces in the box and bury it lightly to remind them that this is the correct place. At the beginning of training, you can put newspapers in the kitten's activity area as a precaution. (Source：PetsZone)
