The common diseases of the female cat reproductive system are as follows:
Ovarian Cysts
Female cats are photoperiod-induced estrus animals. They only come into heat during seasons with sufficient light, which of course includes fluorescent lighting. Moreover, Taiwan has spring-like weather year-round with abundant light exposure, so female cats living in Taiwan often experience continuous estrus. Some cat owners find this persistent estrus troublesome. When a female cat continuously shows signs of estrus, ovarian cysts should be suspected.
Clinically, large fluid-filled cysts are often found on the ovaries during spaying surgery, which is the cause of excessive estrus. Generally, this continuous estrus leads to weight loss and even anemia in female cats. Previously, hormone therapy was used, but it is not recommended because of the severe side effects such as pyometra and mammary tumors. The best method is to perform spaying surgery for a permanent solution.
