Various Misunderstandings Owners Have About Their Pet Cats

  Sharing Meals

Many people think: whatever they eat, they should give to their cat, believing this makes them a good owner. But is cat really suitable to eat our meals? The answer is no. Human food, whether directly given as meals or as snacks, causes two problems in cats' bodies.

Malnutrition: Cats require much higher protein than humans, and their needs for vitamins and minerals differ from ours. Long-term eating of human food causes malnutrition in cats.

Indigestion: Some owners imitate giving bones to cats for calcium supplements, but actually this not only doesn’t aid in grinding teeth or supplementing calcium, but can harm the cat’s digestive system.

  Milk Views

Kittens may for various reasons not be raised by their biological mothers, but the common choice of cow's milk is not suitable for cats. This is because the lactose content in cow's milk far exceeds that in cat milk, and cats' stomachs often cannot digest cow's milk, leading to diarrhea. This explains why cats get diarrhea when drinking milk. So our view on milk is: do not treat cow's milk as water for cats.

  Snack Bomb

Cats love to imitate others; when the owner picks up a small snack, they curiously come to check it out, and some greedy kittens even eat snacks with their owners. Having cavities is secondary; the main issue is that the sugar and salt content in snacks are too high for cats, which burdens their urinary system. Therefore, a better way is to buy specially formulated cat snacks at pet stores.

  Give Whatever They Want

Fish is a food cats like; few cats can resist the smell of fish. But is it really okay to eat fish every day, every meal? Absolutely not! Excessive fish is harmful to cats’ health. For example, tuna contains a lot of polyunsaturated fatty acids, which require large amounts of vitamin E to prevent fat deterioration. If cats eat tuna-based diets long-term, they may develop xanthomatous lipidosis (lots of fibrous lumps on their abdomen). So, they should eat what is appropriate; you cannot let them eat recklessly according to their whims.
