Teach Cats to Remember Their Own Names
Norwegian Forest Cat
Cats doing as they please has become a habit. For wild cats, we have no way to intervene, but for pet cats raised at home, basic education is still necessary. So let’s start with teaching cats to remember their own names.
Teaching cats to remember their own names
Because cats are different from dogs, they do not have the habit of obeying humans, so some people think training cats is impossible. Actually, it’s not. Indeed, cats cannot learn to shake hands or sit still like dogs, but they can realize they live with their owners and maintain a good relationship with them. Even cats feel comfortable, and of course, we cannot train cats to be as obedient as servants, but giving them some basic education that makes both owners and cats happy is not difficult.
The first step in training cats is to let them remember their names and come when called. From the first day the cat comes home, just like remembering the location of the litter box, make it remember its name.
The most effective way is to call the cat's name before feeding. Once it understands that hearing its name means food, it naturally remembers the pronunciation of its name. Then, in other situations besides feeding, when you call it, it will "meow" or look back or wag its tail to respond. This makes it easier for you to proceed with other training. Once it understands its name, it will also come to your voice if it gets lost. Usually, many owners like to talk to their cats, saying, "Come, Mimi," and adding its name makes it even more effective.
