Skills for Carrying Out Good Cat Training Work
Scottish Fold
【1. Training Methods】
Method One: Provide another place for scratching, such as a scratching board, and sprinkle some catnip on it to attract the cat to scratch there. This can prevent the cat from scratching unwanted places.
Method Two: Regularly trim the cat's nails to reduce furniture damage and avoid scratching people.
Method Three: Cats dislike the smell of lemon; you can spray lemon water on sofas or other places they like to scratch.
Method Four: Prepare a water spray bottle and spray it when the cat scratches the sofa.
【2. Training Objects】
When cats scratch objects, they often like to scratch the same place or area. This is because cats have glands on their paws that secrete a sticky and scented fluid. During scratching, this fluid adheres to the surface of objects, and the scent attracts the cat to return and scratch the same spot again. Additionally, after waking up and stretching, cats often engage in scratching behavior. Training measures can be taken based on these habitual actions.
Before training, prepare a wooden post about 70 cm long and 20 cm thick, standing upright and fixed near the cat's nest to facilitate scratching. The wood should be sturdy.
【3. Precautions】
Training should start from . During training, bring the kitten to the wooden post, hold its two front legs with both hands, and place it on the post to simulate the scratching action. This allows the secretion from the glands on the cat's paws to be applied to the post. After multiple trainings, combined with the attraction of the secretion scent, the cat will go scratch the post. Cultivating this habit prevents the cat from scratching furniture, thus protecting its cleanliness and appearance.
For cats that have already developed the habit of scratching furniture, cover the scratched area with plastic boards, wooden boards, etc. Then place a sturdy wooden post or wooden board at an appropriate position in front of the scratched area. You can train the cat to scratch on the wooden post or board in the same way. After the cat forms the habit, slowly move the post or board to your desired location. Each move should not exceed 5 to 10 centimeters; never rush.
