Basic training for cats in daily life

Chinchilla Cat

  【1. Serious Tone】

When training, use a serious tone that is low and commanding. When praising, the tone should be exaggeratedly raised and cheerful. Actually, our are like children; be authoritative when instructing, but don’t forget to be gentle and excited when praising.

  【2. Consistent Attitude】

If there are multiple people at home, remember that everyone’s training attitude must be consistent. The following situations may confuse your cat: The older brother dislikes the cat jumping on the furniture and always shooes it down. Unknown to him, other family members behave differently: the younger sister likes to hold the cat on the bed and gently pet it, the younger brother lets the cat jump onto the desk to catch the mouse cursor on the computer screen, and the mother enjoys the cat sitting on the sofa armrest while watching TV with her. It is indeed not easy to break the bad habit of cats jumping on furniture.

  【3. Training Time】

It is best to train before meals, when the cat is hungry and more responsive. Each training session lasts about five minutes, as many times as possible. Ideally, train every day. If the cat seems bored, please postpone the session. Prepare treats for training because cats are cats, not . Simply praising the cat does not interest them much in learning. Treats should not be given in excess to avoid affecting the nutrition absorption from regular meals. I suggest using the cat’s favorite regular food as a treat; if you find a brand of kibble your cat loves most, save it only for training rewards, then feeding more won’t be a problem.

  【4. Be Patient】

Cats are far less obedient than dogs, so training requires more effort. Since every cat has a different personality, their response to various training differs. Some active cats seem to learn commands like OVER (jump over) faster. Quiet ones naturally absorb commands like STAY better. It typically takes one to two days to teach the command and about one to two weeks to fully master it. During this one to two weeks, cats seem to be caught between understanding and not understanding. Therefore, patient guidance is crucial.

Cats’ and dogs’ memory is not like humans’; they definitely won’t understand why you come home from work shouting at them while pointing at the trash scattered on the floor and the overturned trash can. being naughty is their nature, but after training by mom, the cat will become well-behaved and adorable.
