Make the Cat Obey the Sit Command
Getting a dog to obey commands and sit down consciously is easy, but training a cat to obey the sit command takes some effort. During training, the owner can squat down and place their hand on the cat’s back near its hind legs and say “sit.” If the cat sits, immediately praise it kindly and stroke it, but do not reward it with food right away. After a short moment, say “stand” and release the hand, meanwhile rewarding the cat with a small amount of its favorite food. Repeat this process, gradually extending the time your hand stays on the back to increase the cat’s sitting duration. After some time, you can start training without placing your hand on the cat’s back. If the cat stands up halfway through training, immediately bring it back to the original spot, press it to sit, firmly say “sit,” and then repeat the earlier training.
After about one to two weeks of training, most cats will start to obey the command. At this point, when the cat is sitting, you can switch the command from “sit” to “stand” gradually, helping the cat distinguish between the two commands. Then you can begin training other commands.
