Kitten Cold Symptoms, These Are Easy to Recognize
Like humans, kittens are prone to catching colds during seasonal changes and when their immunity decreases. Mild colds can cause kittens to eat poorly and sleep restlessly, while severe cases may lead to other complications, threatening their health. Therefore, no matter what causes a kitten’s cold, pet owners must take it seriously and understand the symptoms. Only by doing so can problems be detected promptly and resolved quickly.
1. Abnormal temperature on the kitten's nose tip. After catching a cold, the kitten’s whole body temperature rises, including the nose tip. So if you find the kitten’s nose tip temperature abnormal and dry, it indicates the kitten has a fever from the cold.
2. The kitten sneezes constantly. When the kitten catches a cold, its respiratory system will be affected, causing uncontrolled sneezing. If sneezing is accompanied by coughing, then there is no doubt the kitten has caught a cold.
3. The kitten does not want to eat. Along with a cold, kittens will show loss of appetite. Even if offered their favorite treats, they will show no interest and may walk away.
4. The kitten starts to tear up. Many uncomfortable symptoms occur when kittens have a cold, but tearing eyes is the most heartbreaking for pet owners because usually aloof kittens do not shed tears. Only after catching a cold will they tear up uncontrollably.
After kittens catch a cold, they may show the symptoms above, but it is worth noting that kitten colds and serious diseases like feline viral rhinotracheitis share some similar symptoms. Pet owners must learn to distinguish between them and not confuse the two because mistaking feline viral rhinotracheitis for a cold could endanger the kitten’s life. If we lack experience, we should take the kitten to see a vet promptly upon noticing any discomfort symptoms.
