Japanese Bobtail Cat Training Methods
Oriental Shorthair Cat
Cats have many natural instincts. As the owner of a Japanese Bobtail cat, the first thing is to respect the cat’s nature. Secondly, to help the Japanese Bobtail live more harmoniously at home, you can take some measures to correct some bad habits of the cat.
1. Scratching furniture
1. Regularly trim your Japanese Bobtail’s nails, while also preparing something she can scratch. This is the most important rule. Since the Japanese Bobtail’s nature cannot be changed, when forbidding the cat from scratching one place, you must provide another place where she can scratch. This is very important!
2. Prepare a water spray bottle to discipline her when she scratches the sofa. Japanese Bobtails are very afraid of sudden "attacks." When the cat is about to scratch the sofa, spray her with the water bottle. The cat will be scared and run away. Using this method several times will create a conditioned reflex: scratching the sofa = suddenly being attacked by an unknown thing, and naturally the cat will give up the sofa. The water spray does no harm to the cat, serving only as a warning. However, be careful not to spray water into the cat’s ears.
3. Spray lemon water on the spots she likes to scratch on the sofa. Cats dislike the smell of lemon water, and also the smell of orange peel water is disliked by cats. Other smells cats do not like include floral water and medicated oil. When cats smell these scents while scratching, they will definitely avoid those areas.
