　　A litter box is something every cat owner must prepare, and training a cat to use the litter box takes time. Actually, cats love cleanliness and are very smart; they enjoy burying their feces in the litter, so training a cat to use the litter box is not difficult.

　　1. Training Time

　　Training should start from the first day the cat enters the home. If your cat is already an adult stray cat, training may be a bit challenging. If the cat is still a kitten without special habits, it will be much easier. Cats unfamiliar with their new home will show signs of needing to relieve themselves by restlessness, which is a good opportunity to train them to use the toilet.

　　2. Location of the Litter Box

　　The litter box should be placed in areas where the cat can freely come and go, such as hallway corners or balconies. Pay attention to the privacy of the litter box; although the cat should see it, cats do not like being watched while using it.

　　3. Starting Training

　　Hold the cat and place it into the prepared toilet. Initially, it may be confused and try to climb out, which is common, but you should softly say to it: "The toilet is here," repeating this several times.

　　Put sand or tissues with the smell of cat feces into the toilet so the cat can smell its own scent and feel reassured. When the cat successfully relieves itself, don’t forget to praise it well; only by repeating this training will it be effective. Some cats will even deliberately return home from outside to use the toilet.

　　4. Why Cats Don’t Like the Toilet

　　If you prepare a toilet for the cat but it refuses to use it, consider whether the cat dislikes that toilet. Pay attention to the following points: when raising kittens, if the toilet is too dirty or unusable, it will greatly affect them. Also, for cleanliness-loving cats, they can't stand toilets soiled with feces, so it’s best to clean immediately after each use.
