　 Cats are excellent jumpers, unlike dogs who, if forbidden from sleeping on the bed, sometimes cannot jump up even if they want to. Cats, however, come and go at will. Therefore, training a cat to sleep in a fixed place takes some effort.

　 1. Prepare a Pet Bed

　 Before bringing the cat home, prepare a pet bed or box with a cushion or straw inside. In winter, place a hot water bag or warming pad inside and put it in a warm place, encouraging the cat to sleep there daily. If the cat still refuses to sleep in the bed, cover it with a canopy to prevent it from escaping. After several training sessions, the cat will stop running out and also won’t crawl into the human bed.

　 2. Issue Commands

　 Additionally, if you find the cat unwilling to return to its bed and instead sleeps in the owner’s bedding, the owner should issue a “No” command. Then put the cat back into its own bed and cover it with a wire mesh canopy to force the cat to sleep inside. Repeating this training several times will help the cat gradually form the good habit of sleeping in a fixed place. Some cats love to crawl into their owner’s bedding, which is a bad habit because some feline diseases, such as ringworm and toxoplasmosis, can easily be transmitted to humans. Thus, training cats not to go on the bed is necessary.

　 If the cat likes to get on the bed or crawl under the covers during the day, gently tap the cat’s hindquarters and loudly scold it to chase it off the bed. Cats are very sensitive to their owner’s emotions, so after repeating this several times, the bad habit of getting on the bed can be changed. If this method does not work, the owner can try the following: prepare 2-4 toy water guns in advance. When the cat gets on the bed, the owner can stand where the cat cannot see and spray water on it with a water gun filled with water. The cat will immediately run away after being surprised. Repeating this several times will keep the cat off the bed. It is important not to let the cat see the owner spraying water, or this method will not be effective.
