How to Train a Persian Cat to Climb Mountains with Its Owner
I personally highly advocate exercising through mountain climbing, which not only strengthens your own perseverance and stamina but also allows you to enjoy the surrounding scenery. Cat owners who love hiking probably wish for a cat that follows along closely. So, how to train a Persian cat to climb mountains with its owner?
a. Maintain a steady pace
When climbing, don’t rush. Try to maintain a steady pace to avoid excessive exhaustion. This will make descending easier. When going down, take it step by step with your Persian cat. If possible, try to take a winding S-shaped path to avoid descending too steeply, which could cause leg muscle pain for your Persian cat. Control both your and your cat’s speed while descending to prevent danger. If mountain climbing is inconvenient, you can replace it by consistently climbing stairs every day.
b. Food rewards
Before climbing, it’s best to scout the terrain to avoid overly rugged paths or getting lost. If the route is long, carry water and food (remember to bring supplies for you and your Persian) to timely reward your cat with food, encouraging it to enjoy hiking together with you.
c. There are many precautions when hiking with a pet Persian cat, such as staying within safe areas. If you encounter cliffs or difficult terrain, it’s best to use a leash to guide your Persian. This can help overcome your cat’s fear and, in dangerous moments, the leash could even save your cat’s life.
In fact, mountain climbing is an excellent exercise. For cats, it not only tones their body but also allows joyful time with their owner. Of course, training a cat to hike is not difficult, and I hope every owner can succeed.
