How to Cultivate Good Elimination Habits for Cats

Folded Ear Cat
Good behavioral habits need to be developed from a young age. Training cats to eliminate in a fixed place requires consistent guidance, and here the editor teaches you a simple method.
During training, place a litter box next to the cat’s bed, filled with 3~4cm thick sand, with a small amount of sand carrying the smell of kitten urine or feces on the top layer. When the cat is restless and pacing anxiously, guide it to the litter box and let it first smell the sand inside. This way, it will eliminate inside the litter box. After several training sessions, the habit can be formed.
If the cat eliminates elsewhere, avoid scolding or corporal punishment. Instead, gently press the cat’s head onto the feces, point to it, and say “Go here.” Repeating this several times can correct the undesirable behavior of eliminating everywhere.
Cat Training Tips:
In the city, training a cat to use the flush toilet for elimination is ideal. Before training, place a plastic or wooden board under the toilet seat and spread an appropriate amount of sand, ash, sawdust, or other bedding on the board. When the cat is circling anxiously, bring it to the flush toilet. Soon it will eliminate there. Once the cat develops the habit of using the plastic board for elimination independently, gradually reduce the amount of bedding. The cat will then form the habit of standing on the toilet seat to eliminate. At this point, the plastic or wooden board can be removed. Bedding should be replaced frequently, usually once a day.
